The spread of vegetation fires in Moreno Valley and the Pedley neighborhood of Jurupa Valley was stopped by fire crews Tuesday afternoon, May 24, the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said.
The first fire was reported in the 6000 block of Pedley Road of Jurupa Valley at 2:57 p.m., Cal Fire said. The incident comprised of two fires, one being three acres in size and the other being four acres, authorities said.
The forward spreads of both of the fires were stopped around 4:40 p.m., Cal Fire said.
Residents on Pedley Road were asked to shelter in place, fire officials said. Pedley Road was temporarily closed between Jurupa Road and Limonite Avenue, authorities said.

The second fire was reported in the 11100 block of Pioneer Ridge Road near Poorman’s Reservoir in Moreno Valley at 3:22 p.m., Cal Fire said. The fire’s forward progress was stopped around 5 p.m., with it’s size being just under five acres, authorities said.
The San Bernardino County and Redlands fire departments were assisting with the Moreno Valley incident, authorities said.

The cause of the fires was not immediately clear.
