An Ontario man was arrested after a woman was fatally stabbed and he got into an hours-long standoff with police Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 28, police said.
At 1:22 p.m., the Ontario Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance in the 900 block of North Humboldt Avenue, police said in a news release. When they arrived, police found 50-year-old Allen Kao in a parked car armed with a knife, authorities said.
Kao was uncooperative with the officers and said that he had killed a woman, officials said.
Police found an unresponsive woman inside of a nearby home and she was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, authorities said. No identifying information was available for the woman, pending the coroner’s notification next-of-kin, police said.
The standoff continued for several hours before officers removed Kao from his car at 4:25 p.m. and took him into custody, officials said. He was treated for multiple self-inflicted knife wounds and was taken to a local hospital, authorities said.
Once he is released from treatment, Kao was going to be booked on suspicion of murder, police officials said.
Nearby Del Norte Elementary School was temporarily placed on lockdown, but was not threatened during the incident, police said.
