Winning Powerball ticket sold in Ontario is worth $1,044,212 – San Bernardino Sun

ONTARIO — Nobody won the big prize in Wednesday’s Powerball lottery drawing, but one of 19 tickets sold nationwide that had five correct numbers — but missing the Powerball number — was sold at a small market in Ontario and will net the winner more than $1 million.

With no no tickets sold with all six numbers in the latest drawing of the multi-state Powerball lottery, the estimated jackpot for Saturday’s drawing is expected to grow to $1.5 billion, the third-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

Of the 19 tickets sold with five winning numbers, one was sold at the Eastland Food Market at 1072 E. G St. in Ontario. A second ticket with five numbers was sold at a convenience store in Milpitas in Silicon Valley. They are each worth $1,044,212, the California Lottery announced.

Tickets with five numbers, but missing the Powerball number, sold in other states are worth either $1 million or $2 million, but California law requires major payoffs of lottery games to be paid on a pari-mutuel basis.

Of the 17 tickets with five numbers, but missing the Powerball number, sold outside of California three were sold in New Jersey, two each in Georgia and Maryland, and one each in Arkansas, Arizona, Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina, New York, Oregon, Montana, Texas and Virginia.

One ticket each sold in Arkansas, Montana and New Jersey are worth $2 million because the players utilized the Power Play option, where for an additional $1 per play, a ticket with five numbers, but missing the Powerball number, is worth $2 million.

The others are each worth $1 million.

The numbers drawn Wednesday 2, 11, 22, 35, 60, and the Powerball number was 23. The jackpot was $1.2477 billion, the fourth-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

The drawing was the 39th since a ticket with all six numbers was sold.

The odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is 1 in about 293 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.87.
