Two motorists died early Saturday in Rialto when their car was struck by a vehicle that had been pursued by police in Colton and Rialto.

Around 1 a.m., the pursuit of a gray 2014 Nissan Maxima continued from Colton into Rialto, with Rialto police joining the chase. The suspect’s vehicle was traveling at high speeds near Linden and Randall avenues, where officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the Rialto Police Department said in a news release.

The suspect later ran a red light while heading north on Cedar Avenue, where he collided with a silver 2019 Nissan Sentra heading east on Randall Avenue, the release said.

The suspect lost control and the Maxima crashed into a residence on the 1200 block of Randall Avenue.

The house was occupied but no one inside was injured, police said.

The driver of the Sentra, Aaron McDonald, 31 a Bloomington resident; and his passenger, Irene Jaramillo of Rialto, 30, were taken to a hospital but died of their injuries, police said.

The driver of the Maxima, Alejandro Canchola, 24, and his passenger, Jose Castrocota, 21, both San Bernardino residents, were transported to area hospitals and treated for moderate injuries.

Canchola was awaiting discharge from the hospital. Rialto police said he would be arrested on suspicion of murder.

Information on what started the initial pursuit in Colton was not immediately available.
