Fontana has had a total of 47,851 confirmed coronavirus cases and 635 deaths as of Dec. 16, according to the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health.

There has been an increase in the number of new cases recently. Over the past 10 days, 644 more residents have been infected with the virus.

Overall in San Bernardino County, there have been 373,538 cases and 5,986 deaths since the COVID-19 pandemic began early last year.

The county reported earlier this week that the first case of the Omicron variant in the county was detected in Redlands.

Health officials are urging all residents to get vaccinated, because the vaccines have proven to be highly effective in reducing the risk of hospitalization and death from COVID-19.

Since Feb. 1, the number of county residents who died from COVID-19 who were fully vaccinated is 90, but the number who have died who were not fully vaccinated is 846.

The Jessie Turner Center, located at 15556 Summit Avenue in Fontana, accepts vaccination appointments Monday through Friday from noon to 8 p.m. for individuals 5 years or older who live or work in San Bernardino County.
