Two persons were arrested during a DUI checkpoint in Fontana on Dec. 18, according to the Fontana Police Department.

One individual was arrested for DUI (drugs) and one individual was arrested for an outstanding warrant during the checkpoint, which took place on Sierra Avenue, north of Randall Avenue, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Eighteen drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, and 1,417 vehicles were contacted.

Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired, police said.
