Train strikes vehicle in Rialto leaving 1 injured, roads closed – San Bernardino Sun

A man was injured after a Metrolink train struck a vehicle on the tracks near Riverside and Willow avenues in Rialto on Saturday, Nov. 19, authorities said.

The train, which was only occupied by a conductor, struck a black Ford 150 pickup around 3:30 p.m., according to Rialto Police Cpl. Nick Parcher. One man was inside the truck and taken to a local hospital. The severity of his injuries was not immediately known to police, Parcher said.

The circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately clear, Parcher added. It was unknown whether the man was intentionally parked on the tracks or if the vehicle was having problems, he said.

Amid the investigation into the crash, Parcher said Riverside Avenue would be closed for “an extensive amount of time.” A traffic advisory was issued shortly before 4 p.m., and there was no specific end time for the closure, Parcher added. Willow also was closed, a police tweet said.
