A suspect who was wanted on charges of carjacking and attempted murder was arrested after a pursuit which ended in Fontana on Sept. 29, according to the Fontana Police Department.

At about 10:13 p.m., the Riverside Police Department helicopter “AIR 1” relayed details of a carjacking incident that took place in Riverside. The vehicle involved was identified as a 2018 Chevy Malibu, which was last spotted heading north on Sierra Avenue from Armstrong Road in Riverside County.

After the carjacking, the suspect allegedly fired shots at other drivers in Jurupa Valley.

Shortly after the information was disseminated, law enforcement officers spotted the vehicle traveling east on Arrow Avenue from Citrus Avenue in Fontana.

A pursuit ensued, eventually leading the vehicle north on Sierra Avenue to Casa Grande, where it reached a dead end, Romero said.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old Gabriel Rodriguez, had no choice but to surrender, Romero said.

Rodriguez was apprehended without any issues and was turned over to Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies, who are handling charges related to carjacking and attempted murder.

The Fontana P.D.’s gang unit is handling the evading charge.
