A shooting suspect is on the loose after he fired a gun at a group of people during a fight in Fontana and struck an uninvolved 21-year-old woman who was driving nearby, leaving her hospitalized in critical condition, Fontana police said.
On Aug. 13, a fight broke out between two groups at Boston’s Restaurant at 16927 Sierra Lakes Parkway and spilled over into the restaurant’s parking lot around 1 a.m., the Fontana Police Department said Monday in a news release. One involved person, who was identified as 22-year-old Javier Torres, pulled out a semi-automatic gun and fired multiple rounds toward the other group, police said.
An uninvolved woman who had just left a nearby drive-thru was driving through the parking lot to look for a place to pull over and eat when several rounds fired by Torres struck her car, with one round hitting her on the side, the Police Department said. She then lost control of her car and crashed into a fire hydrant, police said.
The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital and was in “critical condition with life-altering injuries” as of Monday, police said.
During the shooting, Torres was wearing a black shirt, gray shorts, black socks, black Crocs and an orange baseball hat, authorities said. Torres is a documented gang member and should be considered armed and dangerous, the Police Department said.
Torres was last known to live in the Fontana and Rancho Cucamonga area, officials said. The three other people with Torres at the time of the shooting have been identified and contacted, police said.
