Suspect arrested in 2019 killing of Chino man found off Mount Baldy Road – San Bernardino Sun

Authorities have made an arrest in the slaying of a Chino man found off a roadway in the Mount Baldy area nearly three years ago.

The body of Frank Vargas, 40, was found in the early morning in September 2019 in an embankment off of Mount Baldy Road, north of Ice House Canyon Road. The victim was found with injuries that indicated a homicide, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

There were no immediate arrests following the investigation.

On April 14, Ricky Salazar, a 37-year-old Chino resident, was arrested after authorities identified him as a suspect in Vargas’ death. Salazar was being held on one count of suspicion murder at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

Information on what led to Salazar’s arrest, or a possible motive, was not immediately available Saturday.
