A small brush fire broke out in the hills near a residential area in Moreno Valley on Sunday evening, July 10, but no homes were immediately threatened.
Callers said they saw fireworks being used shortly before spotting flames on the 16000 block of Foxtrot Lane, near Lasselle Street, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Tawny Castro said. Those reports were not immediately verified, and the cause of the fire was under investigation Sunday evening.
It had consumed between three to five acres as of 9:45 p.m. and was burning uphill in medium brush, Castro said. No structures were in danger as of about 9:45 p.m.
The fire was burning in hills between neighborhoods and Lake Perris
Crews were expected to work through the night and into Monday morning to fully extinguish the fire, Castro said.
