Lloyd Garrison, a board member of the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra, is a recipient of the 2022 Most Valuable Player Volunteer Award, presented by the Association of California Symphony Orchestras.

The Association of California Symphony Orchestras launched its MVP Volunteer Award in 1996 to recognize exemplary volunteers, volunteer projects and volunteer organizations and to thank some of the volunteers that orchestras and classical music organizations depend on.

“The quintessential board member, each year (Garrison) devotes hundreds of hours to representing the organization at civic events, hosts friends and colleagues at symphony performances and generouslysupports symphony operations,” Anne Viricel, executive director of the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra, said in a news release.

.“Although Mr. Garrison has built a distinguished career in international business, he finds time to serve on a number of symphony committees, always bringing with him a statesmanlike thoughtfulness that ensures every decision will be well considered. He regularly attends Chamber of Commerce events, represents thesymphony at donor events and is the one person we can always count on to sponsor all the flashlights, pens and calendars our patrons receive,” Viricel said.

Garrison also helped coordinate with the Upland Unified School District to allow the San Bernardino Symphony to serve more than 1,000 additional students every year, according to Viricel.

“During good times and bad, orchestras depend on volunteers to help with almost every aspect of their operations,” Sarah Weber, executive director of the Association of California Symphony Orchestras, said in the news release.

“They are working behind the scenes and out in front as ambassadors to make sure that their orchestra is strong and active in the performance hall and in the community. Lloyd is an outstanding example of how critical volunteers are to keeping our orchestras vital and resilient,” Weber said.
