San Bernardino animal shelter waives fees for adoptions – San Bernardino Sun

Adoption fees at the San Bernardino Animal Shelter will be waived through at least Saturday, July 9, city officials announced this week.

Since the beginning of the program on June 25, the Animal Services Department has adopted out 90 dogs and cats in an effort to reduce overcrowding at the shelter.

The shelter has exceeded its housing capacity for dogs for six months, officials said in a news release.

In partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, the free adoptions include microchipping, vaccines and spay/neuter services.

According to 2021 data released by the Best Friends Animal Society, shelters nationwide saw an 8.1% increase in dogs and cats, and the number of adoptions has not kept pace with the increased occupancy. This trend has continued in 2022, causing shelter overcrowding to worsen.
