Rob Wigod to step down as CIF Southern Section commissioner in 2023 – San Bernardino Sun

Rob Wigod announced Tuesday that the 2022-23 school year will be his final year as CIF Southern Section commissioner.

Wigod, 63, made the announcement in the section’s “Commissioner’s Message” that provides news and updates on CIF-SS business.

He declined to comment Tuesday on reasons for his departure that will take place Aug. 1, 2023.

This is Wigod’s 13th year as the section’s commissioner. He previously served as a CIF-SS assistant commissioner for 11 years. Wigod was a high school baseball coach, including at Los Alamitos, and was the athletic director at Los Alamitos.

Wigod also coached at Lakewood and at his alma mater Long Beach Wilson where he was a multi-sport athlete.

His tenure as CIF-SS commissioner saw significant financial growth for the section. A budget surplus enabled the section to refund membership fees to CIF-SS member schools for the 2022-23 school year.

During his tenure, the CIF-SS added the sports of lacrosse and competitive cheer. Transfers of prominent high school student-athletes continued to be a much-reported topic during Wigod’s tenure.
