Riverside Tamale Festival returns this week – San Bernardino Sun

The Riverside Tamale Festival returns Saturday, Sept. 10.

In addition to tamales and other Mexican fare, the festival will feature live entertainment, art displays, children’s activities and a beer garden.

The annual event is a key fundraiser for the Spanish Town Heritage Foundation nonprofit, an organization dedicated to the restoration and rehabilitation of the Trujillo Adobe.

The event will is set for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at White Park, 3936 Chestnut St.

General admission tickets are $20, with tickets for military, seniors and students discounted to $10.

A VIP ticket, which allows the ticket holder to judge the tamale contest and includes other perks, is $100 (plus a $7.59 fee if purchased online).

Grand reopening in La Verne

The La Verne Flame Broiler is celebrating its grand reopening with a giveaway.

The restaurant, which is under new ownership, will give away free regular-size bowls — topped with the protein of your choice — to the first 100 customers in line at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9.

The restaurant is at 1548 Foothill Blvd.

BJ’s beer-pairing dinner

Reservations are now being taken for the next beer-pairing dinner at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse.

A five-course Oktoberfest dinner will take place at 6:30 p.m. either Monday or Tuesday, Oct. 6 or 7.

Here’s a look at the pairings:

Welcome beer: Weihenstephaner Original Premium

Course 1: Stiegl Hell paired with house wedge salad

• Course 2: Flensburger Pilsener paired with tavern-cut garlic chicken pesto pizza

Course 3: BJ’s Enchantress Golden Pilsner paired with honey Sriracha Brussels sprouts

Palate cleanser: Weihenstephaner Festbier

Course 4: BJ’s Oktoberfest paired with baby back pork ribs and mashed potatoes

Course 5: Ayinger Bavarian Dark Lager paired with mini salted caramel Pizookie

Cost is $40 in advance and $45 at the door, if available.

The Corona, Menifee, Moreno Valley and Temecula locations will host the dinners on Monday, Oct. 3, while the Chino Hills, Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino and Victorville locations will host the dinners on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

Rubio’s rewards update

Rubio’s Coastal Grill has updated its rewards program to help guests earn points to redeem for free drinks, desserts, tacos and entrées.

Here’s how it now works: Guests earn 10 points for every $1 spent. Earn 400 points and redeem them for a free drink, dessert, regular side of chips and guacamole or Mexican street corn.
