Riverside National Cemetery holds first Memorial Day ceremony since 2019 – San Bernardino Sun

For the first time since 2019, the public gathered for a Memorial Day salute to the fallen at Riverside National Cemetery.

With pandemic cancellations behind, the cemetery again hosted a somber ceremony Monday, May 30, as small flags flew at each grave on the sprawling grounds of the nation’s largest national cemetery in land area.

The ceremony included the laying of a wreath, a moment of silence, military service songs, and the playing of Taps.

John Corona, a teacher at Riverside’s Martin Luther King High School, gave the keynote speech. About 20 years ago, Corona created the school’s King High Remembers program that puts students face to face with history by having them interview veterans and produce documentaries about them.
