Rialto’s Community Services Department recently received a $10,000 donation from Medline.
During the opening ceremonies for Rialto’s co-ed basketball league, Jesse Greenberg, Medline’s public affairs director, and Don Sutphin, operations director, presented the donation to Cynthia Alvarado-Crawford, Rialto’s director of community services.
“The money will be deposited into a scholarship fund to be used for those youth who cannot afford to pay program or sports registration fees in Rialto,” Alvarado-Crawford said in a news release.
“We’re getting more than a donation from Medline,” Alvarado-Crawford said. “We’re getting a partnershipthat benefits the kids and families in Rialto. On top of the donation, Medline has inquired about volunteering to help us with our sports programs.”
Half of the 24 basketball teams showed up at the Carl Johnson Gymnasium for opening ceremonies, and families were in the bleachers and on the sidelines, according to the news release.
“It’s important for families to be able to have their children participate in sports because of the health benefits and life lessons that come with it,” Jesse Greenberg of Medline said in the news release. “Medline is apart of the Rialto community, and we feel committed to help our neighbors who need a little support.”
Rialto offers multiple sports programs, including basketball, volleyball and Tiny Tot sports. The Community Services Department also offers kung fu and folklorico classes, which will be considered for scholarships.
Medline, a health-care company headquartered in Northfield, Ill., has more than 30,000 employees worldwide and does business in more than 125 countries and territories.
