Rialto Community Players to present re-creations of vintage radio dramas – San Bernardino Sun

Rialto Community Players will present “Old Tyme Radio Shows,” re-creating vintage live radio drama broadcasts of the Lux Radio Theater, Dec. 2-11 at the Sandra R. Courtney Community Playhouse in Rialto.

There will be two shows, “The Shop Around the Corner,” presented Dec. 2-4, and “The Wizard of Oz,” presented Dec. 9-11. Performances are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Kerry Jones and James Griffin direct the shows.

“The Shop Around the Corner” is the story of two people who work at the same store in Budapest and are always at odds about everything. Both are enamored with their pen pals, but they don’t know they are each other’s pen pals, according to a news release.

“The Wizard of Oz” is the familiar story based on the book by L. Frank Baum that has been dramatized many times.

In both shows, the actors are in vintage costumes and the audience sees a compete setup of sound effects and the people using them, according to the news release. Characters take their turns at the standing microphone.

Tickets are $15 and $18, available at rialtocommunityplayers.com and 909-873-8514. Seating is open and doors open a half hour before the show starts.

The Sandra R. Courtney Community Playhouse is at 150 E. San Bernardino Ave. in Rialto.
