Rendezvous Back to Route 66 returns to downtown San Bernardino Saturday – San Bernardino Sun

In all her years planning the Rendezvous Back to Route 66 car show and cruise, San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce President Judi Penman has held one truth:

It’s all about the cars.

Engines will rev from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, when the popular community event returns to downtown San Bernardino for a ninth year.

“We always have to tweak the Rendezvous, and we’ve tweaked it through the years, but the cars is the show,” Penman said this week. “We’ve tried different entertainment options in the past, but people don’t come to see the entertainment. They come to see the cars.”

And there will be plenty to see Saturday, when more than 1,200 cars are expected to cruise the historic streets of downtown San Bernardino for a day-long celebration of classic automobiles and the famed Route 66 thoroughfare.

The deadline for in-person car registration is 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at the Chamber office, 546 W. Sixth St.

Sponsored again by the city of San Bernardino and dozens of local businesses, the event area encompasses the space within E Street to the west, Fifth Street to the north, Arrowhead Avenue to the east and Second Street to the south.
