A.K. Smiley Public Library celebrated families with a fiesta Saturday morning, Oct. 8, with an appearance by renowned children’s book illustrator Rafael Lopez, free books, lunch music and more.
African Drums with the University of Redlands were expected to kick off the 19th annual Family Day and Book Fiesta, featuring a free book for each family, followed by musical performances inspired by works illustrated by Lopez. The Cope Middle School Jazz Band, singer Ana González de Jorgenson and guitarist Joshua Brown, La Luce String Quartet and Mountain Top Strings of California all were scheduled to perform.
Families were to enjoy a free lunch and a variety of activities — from a book signing with Lopez to theatrical performances by Stars of Tomorrow to story time with various city and library officials.
