Redlands’ Smiley Park will be filled with art, music, children’s activities and food on Memorial Day during the 10th Redlands Festival of Arts.
The event, featuring a juried art show with artists from across the United States and beyond, runs 10 a.m.-5 p.m. May 28 and 29 in the downtown park. Admission is free.
The festival, founded in 2013 by Shirley Harry and Jerry Bean, began as a small juried art show and has grown to include more than 100 artists this year, with 60 of them competing in multiple categories for cash prize, according to a news release.
The art show will include paintings, photography, sculpture, glass, fiber, metal, wood, ceramics, jewelry and more.
Headlining the festival is award-winning artist Elinore Schnurr of New York. Schnurr’s works are in public and private collections, including those of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, the Museum of the City of New York and the Cleveland Museum of Art, according to the news release.
The festival also includes a Youth Art Expo student artist competition, a children’s art creativespace, free books from the Redlands Sunrise Rotary Club, the Redlands Symphony’s instrument petting zoo, a high school chalk art competition, three stages for musical performances and Redlands Art Association’s Art in the Park exhibition.
The Youth Art Expo, sponsored by Redlands Art Association’s Margaret Clark Art Education Enrichment Fund, will include art activities for children and parents.
Among the festival’s musical performers are Plum Nelly, the Sheptones, Felonius Plunk, Smudge Pots, Laura Bean and the Vagabonds, the Dust Brothers and Fear the Gray.
The festival also includes food trucks and a wine and beer garden.
