Redlands Bowl takes families under the sea with Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ – San Bernardino Sun

The Redlands Bowl takes a voyage under the sea this week as the Summer Music Festival presents Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.”

Crews put the finishing touches on sets for the family-friendly musical Tuesday, July 26, hours before a dress rehearsal performance. The show opens at 8 p.m. Thursday, and performances continue nightly through Sunday.

“The Little Mermaid,” presented by producer and director Wayne Scott, represents the return of musical theater to the Bowl for the first time since 2019. When the coronavirus pandemic forced Bowl performances to go online in summer 2020, producers decided to postpone the popular mermaid-out-of-water tale.

Now, “The Little Mermaid” is ready to make her debut, marking the midpoint of the summer festival that began June 24 with a performance by Debby Boone.

Here’s how the rest of the season plays out:

  • Aug. 2: Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Bluegrass Band with jazz, classical and bluegrass takes on Beatles tunes
  • Aug. 5: Lemon Bucket Orkestra, a klezmer  folk-punk enemble from Toronto
  • Aug. 9: SKERRYVORE, high-energy Scottish music
  • Aug. 12: State Street Ballet, performing selections ranging from the Tango to the waltz and hip-hop
  • Aug. 16: “Songs and Stories” Celebrating the Musical Legacy of Maestro Frank Fetta will be performed by singer Lana Love, baritone Ralph Cato and the Cool Classics Ensemble
  • Aug. 19: Season Finale with The Redlands Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ransom Wilson and featuring guest artist Aubree Oliverson

All performances begin at 8 p.m. on the specified date at the Redlands Bowl, 25 Grant St. Admission is free and seating is first come, first served.
