Program at Redlands’ Mission Gables Bowl House will feature guitar music from the past 500 years – San Bernardino Sun



Guitarist and luthier Jack Sanders will present a performance and lecture surveying the past 500 years of guitar music 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Mission Gables Bowl House, 168 S. Eureka St., Redlands.

Sanders’ program will include music of Luys Milan, Luis de Narvaez and Alonso Mudarra, from the Spanish Renaissance, performed on a replica vihuela, c. 1560, and music of the baroque, composed by Gaspar Sanz and Santiago de Murcia, performed on a copy of the last known Stradivarius guitar from 1700, according to a news release.

He will play music by Fernando Sor on a “Sor Model” Rene Lacote guitar, built in 1830 and signed by Sor, and will perform music of the modern era on a recently built guitar.

Sanders built the vihuela and baroque guitar replica and the modern guitar.

The program is hosted by the Redlands branch of the Music Teachers’ Association of California. Admission is $5 for adults and free for age 17 and younger.
