Ontario Police fatally shoot man after pursuit to the Pomona area – San Bernardino Sun

A pursuit across several cities ended with Ontario Police officers fatally shooting a man in the Pomona area on Friday.

The pursuit began around 7:30 p.m. when officers attempted a traffic stop on a sedan near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue in Ontario, said Cpl. Bill Lee. The driver then led officers on a pursuit through Montclair and Pomona.

The chase ended in the area of Ninth Street and Kadota Avenue — an unincorporated area of Pomona — when a motorist crashed into the suspect’s sedan.

The suspect fled and a police K-9 gave chase. Police said he was armed with a handgun.

When officers approached the suspect, an officer shot the suspect, Lee said. It was not immediately known if the suspect had fired their gun. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified as 39-year-old Miguel Angel Rodriguez, a Pomona resident.

A passenger from Rodriguez’ vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Lee said. The driver of the vehicle that was stuck was treated at the scene.

The shooting is being investigated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
