Manzanita fire near Running Springs held to 27 acres – San Bernardino Sun

A vegetation fire by Highway 330 near Running Springs was held to 27 acres as forward spread was halted, fire officials reported on Friday evening, Sept. 23.

The blaze, dubbed the Manzanita fire, was first reported around 3:30 p.m., according to Delyn Sieliet of the U.S Forest Service. At that time, it was estimated at 50 acres, but the acreage later was revised to a little more than half of that, said Yassy Wilkins, a San Bernardino National Forest spokeswoman.

No evacuation orders were in place but Highway 330 was closed from Highland to Running Springs in both directions. It remained closed as of 7 p.m.

Firefighters were making good progress with ground and air attacks, San Bernardino County Fire officials said, adding that crews would remain on scene overnight to contain the blaze.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

This is a developing story. Additional information will be included when it becomes available.
