A former director of programs for adults with developmental disabilities in Riverside County was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 25, after allegations of sexual battery and dependent adult abuse were raised, the Riverside Police Department said.
Alan Clyde Schwerdt, 71, served as the director of Career Development Institute in Riverside as well as the director of Ability Counts in Corona, police said.
It is alleged that the crimes took place while Schwerdt was the director of Career Development Institute between 2015 to 2020, said Officer Ryan Railsback, spokesman for the Police Department. It wasn’t immediately known if any similar crimes took place at Ability Counts, Railsback said.
It also wasn’t immediately clear how long he served as director at the programs..
The allegations became known in 2021, the Police Department said.
Ability Counts could not be immediately reached for comment regarding the matter. Career Development Institute is now defunct, police said.
Anyone with information to assist in the investigation was asked to contact Detective Melissa Brazil at 951-353-7950 or at MBrazil@RiversideCA.gov.
