Man riding bicycle on 91 Freeway in Corona is struck and killed – San Bernardino Sun

A man inexplicably riding a bicycle in the left lane of the 91 Freeway in Corona was killed early Monday, April 11, when he was struck by a car.

The crash happened at about 1 a.m. in the eastbound lanes west of McKinley Street, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Rusk said.

The driver of the car was in the No. 2 lane when the bicyclist cut across the lanes in front of the car, which was traveling at about 70 mph, Rusk said. The rider, who has not been publicly identified, died at the scene.

One passenger in the car suffered scratches from glass that broke when the bicycle or the rider hit the windshield, Rusk said.

It was not yet clear why the bicyclist was on the freeway, he said. There are several homeless encampments in the area whose occupants sometimes travel along the freeway to get to McKinley, Rusk said.
