A Rialto man was arrested after he attacked a woman, leaving her hospitalized, and then injured two San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies during his arrest, authorities said Monday, July 18.

On Sunday, July 17, deputies responded to a report of a battery in the 3700 block of American Elm Road in unincorporated Rialto, sheriff’s officials said. It was determined that the suspect was in an argument with a woman he was in a relationship with when he pushed her to the ground, punched her several times and tased her, authorities said.

The woman was taken to a hospital by ambulance for injuries sustained in the attack, the Sheriff’s Department said.

During his arrest, the suspect resisted and was violent towards the deputies, resulting in minor injuries to two of the deputies, officials said. The suspect was taken to a hospital as a precaution before being booked in jail, the Sheriff’s Department said.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the suspect was injured in this incident. He was arrested on suspicion of injury to a spouse and resisting or obstructing an officer, officials said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident was urged to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 909-356-6767.
