A California man was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison without parole for transporting “an extraordinary” amount of methamphetamine from Ontario to Missouri, prosecutors said.
Johnny Jordan Thompson, 48, pleaded guilty in federal court in Missouri to one count of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute in Dec. 2021.
Thompson admitted to having 28 pounds of methamphetamine in the vehicle he borrowed from a car dealership in Ontario when he was pulled over by a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper on Sept. 12, 2019 on Interstate 70, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Eleven packages of methamphetamine, which weighed approximately 20 pounds, were found by the trooper in the trunk. An additional eight pounds were found hidden under the carpet of the passenger floorboard, the release said.
Thompson had prior felony convictions and spent almost 20 years in prison on charges related to vehicle theft, armed robbery and attempted murder after he was hired to kill someone, prosecutors said.
His city of residence was not available.
