A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder — and mutilating grave remains — in the death of an 18-year-old Riverside woman in March.
Dezman Markell Hunter of Banning was arrested on May 5, the Riverside Police Department said. In addition to the two charges, sentencing enhancements of lying in wait and killing a person while committing rape were filed, Superior Court records show. He is due to enter pleas on May 24.
He was being held without bail Tuesday at Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
Police have released scant details of the death of Mandeep Kaur. Officer Javier Cabrera, a Police Department spokesman, declined to discuss the case Tuesday, including what Hunter is accused of doing to Kaur’s grave, citing the ongoing investigation.
Someone reported finding Kaur’s body in an apartment in the 1000 block of Spruce Street on March 16. The date, time and location of the injuries that killed her remain listed as “pending” by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office. A cause of death has not been announced, but Hunter has not been charged with any firearms violations.
Police ask anyone with information on the case to contact Detective Brett Stennett at 951-353-7116 or BStennett@RiversideCA.gov.
