A 75-year-old man facing 65 felony charges alleging sex crimes against three minor victims in Riverside County was apprehended in Mexico, prosecutors announced Wednesday, March 9.
Harry Arlington Durette, formerly of San Jacinto, was arrested, Tuesday, March 8, in Rosarito, Mexico, and was brought across the border to Murrieta where he was booked and held in lieu of $1 million bail, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
Charges against Durette include multiple counts of lewd acts with a child under 14, lewd acts with a child under 14 with force, aggravated sexual assault of a child and a variety of enhancement charges for having a prior serious felony conviction as well as sex offenses against multiple victims, according to Riverside County Superior Court records.
Durette faces a potential sentence of life in prison if convicted as charged, the news release said.
In August 2020, he was arrested and charged with lewd acts on a child but was able to post bail, authorities said. Investigators later found evidence that there were two additional underage victims, the DA’s Office said.
In October 2021, Durette failed to appear to his preliminary hearing and a $55,000 bench warrant was issued, authorities said. When he failed to appear in court again on Nov. 17, 2021, a $1 million warrant was issued by the judge, officials said.
In December 2021, authorities developed leads that determined Durette was in Mexico.
