Man accused of murder in Riverside is now a suspect in Moreno Valley slaying – San Bernardino Sun

A man who Riverside police arrested Saturday on suspicion of killing a man in 2020 has now been identified by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department as a suspect in a 2020 slaying in Moreno Valley.

The arrest of 50-year-old Arthur Lawrence Akins III of Riverside ended a 17-month-long investigation into the death of Cedric Omarr Dempsey, 32, who was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head behind Bordwell Park in Riverside on Dec. 22, 2020.

Then Monday, May 23, the Sheriff’s Department said Akins was responsible for the June 7, 2020, fatal shooting of 43-year-old Kevin Henderson of Moreno Valley. He was found dead in the 24000 block of Myers Avenue in that city. Akins was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Akins has not yet been charged in either case.

Darnell Frederick Tate, 32, was arrested on May 6 in Henderson’s death. He was charged with murder; sentencing enhancements of being a gang member and using a firearm to cause injury or death were added. Tate is due to enter pleas on Tuesday,

Investigators believe there are others who were involved in Henderson’s death who have not been identified, a sheriff’s news release said.
