A knife-wielding man who police say was menacing customers at an Ontario gas station and then charged at an officer was shot to death on Thursday night, July 14, the Ontario Police Department said.
Calls came in around 10:45 p.m. that a man was attempting to rob people near the pumps at the Mobil gas station in the 4300 block of E. Ontario Mills Parkway, just south of the mall, said Officer Eliseo Guerrero, a police spokesman.
The first officer to arrive encountered the man, who was still holding the knife, Guerrero said. The man charged at the officer who then fired, fatally striking the man, Guerrero said. The man, whose name has not been announced, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else was injured, Guerrero said.
It was not immediately clear whether the man had taken money from anyone.
