Los Lobos concert raises cash for Riverside’s Chicano art museum – San Bernardino Sun

Los Lobos rocked the Riverside Municipal Auditorium on Saturday night, May 7, while raising money to support a Chicano art museum set to open next month in downtown Riverside.

The concert benefitted the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture, which will open June 18 in the remodeled 61,420-square-foot building that once housed the city’s main public library.

The show was presented by Hot 103.9 and Katy 101.3, a news release states.

The center will showcase nearly 500 paintings, drawings and sculptures gifted by Marin, known for his part in the counterculture comedy duo Cheech & Chong that made millions laugh in the 1970s and ’80s.

In late April, the center received its first artwork — a 26-foot-tall multifaceted, LED-backlit piece featuring an Aztec earth goddess that was commissioned for the museum.
