Jurupa Valley pursuit ends in deputy-involved shooting, suspect not hit and arrested – San Bernardino Sun

A Jurupa Valley traffic stop led to a pursuit that ended with a deputy-involved shooting Saturday evening, authorities said.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Edward Soto said the incident began around 5:24 p.m. at Dodd Street and 48th Street in Jurupa Valley. Deputies were attempting to stop a pickup truck for a vehicle code violation, at which point a male driver drove away, “dragging” and injuring a deputy with his vehicle, according to Soto.

While the injured deputy was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, a pursuit began, Soto said.

The driver, the truck’s only occupant, took “extremely evasive action” from authorities until he was sequestered at the 3600 block of Conning Street, according to Soto.

At Conning Street, Soto said the suspect reversed backward “at a high rate of speed” in a seeming attempt to hit approaching deputies.

An unidentified deputy then opened fire at the driver’s side of the truck, Soto said, “out of fear for his safety.” Soto was not immediately aware of how many shots were fired toward the suspect’s vehicle.

The male suspect did not sustain any injuries from the incident and was taken into custody, Soto said. It was not immediately clear what charges the suspect was arrested on.

The incident remains under investigation.
