Jesse Armendarez sworn in as San Bernardino County supervisor

Residents in Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga and portions of Upland have a new representative on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors.

Former Fontana City Council member Jesse Armendarez was sworn in as Second District supervisor on Thursday, Dec. 29, in the board’s chambers.

“The platform I ran on to help those of you who can’t help yourself, help those of you who are struggling to have a fair wage, to have mental health, these are promises that I have not forgotten. These are things that I plan on moving forward with, with dedication and passion,” Armendarez said shortly after his swearing-in, according to a news release from the county.

Armendarez takes office at noon Jan. 2, 2023.

Armendarez beat Cucamonga Valley Water District board member Luis Cetina in the Nov. 8 election for the right to succeed Supervisor Janice Rutherford, who is term-limited out of office after 12 years on the board.

The November election was Armendarez’s second bid for a seat on the supervisors’ dais: Armendarez ran and lost against Supervisor Joe Baca in 2020.
