An inmate at the West Valley Detention Center jail in Rancho Cucamonga faces an additional charge of suspicion of killing his cellmate earlier this month, authorities said.
On Oct. 2, deputies at the detention center were called to a cell in the housing unit and found Steven Puskar, a 47-year-old San Bernardino resident, unresponsive and suffering from injuries, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and was pronounced dead a week later.
Puskar had been arrested in June by San Bernardino Police on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
His cellmate, Michael Follet, 67 was interviewed by authorities and booked on suspicion of murder on Oct. 13. Follet, a resident of Yucaipa, was previously arrested there in September by sheriff’s deputies on charges including unlawful use of tear gas, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, assault, exhibiting a knife and resisting arrest.
