Inland Empire Memorial Day 2022 events commemorate lives of fallen military members – San Bernardino Sun

Communities across the Inland Empire will mark Memorial Day 2022 with words and music to salute fallen U.S. military service members.

Events include the return of one of the largest commemorations in the region at Riverside National Cemetery following two years of pandemic-related changes to ceremonies there.



Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7347 and the cities of Calimesa and Yucaipa will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 11251 Desert Lawn Drive in Calimesa. Yucaipa resident and Cpl. Justin Crabbe, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from September 2008 to November 2012, will be the keynote speaker. He earned the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, and several other medals and recognitions, according to the city of Yucaipa.

A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30 at Central Park, 30268 Civic Plaza Drive. The ceremony will include special presentations, guest speakers and messages of remembrance. Moreno Valley

Moreno Valley will honor veterans at the city’s Virtual Memorial Day address at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30. The event will be broadcasted live on the city’s YouTube page, the city’s Facebook page and on MV3.

A reverent Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the George A. Ingalls Veterans Memorial Plaza, 3737 Crestview Drive. The ceremony will feature a continuous salute, speeches and the unveiling of a name on the city’s “Lest We Forget” Wall. Capt. Volunteers will gather for a ceremony at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at Riverside National Cemetery, then fan out across the sprawling cemetery to plant more than 250,000 flags to mark the Memorial Day holiday weekend – a flag for every hero. The cemetery is located at 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside.

A Memorial Day ceremony is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Riverside National Cemetery amphitheater. A student and teacher from Riverside’s Martin Luther King High School are scheduled to speak. The event will be the first public Memorial Day ceremony to be held at the sprawling cemetery at 22495 Van Buren Blvd. since 2019.

San Jacinto

The San Jacinto Valley Cemetery will host a Memorial Day celebration at 9 a.m. Monday, May 30, in the northwest corner of the cemetery at 2555 S. Santa Fe Ave. The ceremony is hosted by the American Legion Post 53 and their Honor Guard. Coffee and donuts are provided by The Friends of the San Jacinto Valley Cemetery District.

Highland American Legion Post 421 will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Daniel D. Yarnell Memorial Park to honor military veterans and fallen heroes. The park is at the corner of Base Line and Central Avenue. Information: 909-862-8225

A Memorial Day ceremony is set for 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 30 at Hillside Memorial Park, 1540 Alessandro Road in Redlands. Retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Jacki Mortenson, who became the first female chief flight engineer in the U.S. Air Force in 1992, will speak at the event. The Patriot Horns group will perform. Redlands City Council member and Vietnam veteran Mick Gallagher said in an email that  A.K. Smiley Public Library director Don McCue will discuss “military who lost their life fighting for our freedom and are residents of Hillside.” The event is hosted by American Legion posts 106 and 650.

The city of Claremont, the American Legion Keith Powell Post 78 and Friends of the Oak Park Cemetery, are hosting Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Oak Park Cemetery, 410 Sycamore Ave. U.S. service members will be commemorated and will include military ceremonial traditions with remarks from local community organizations.

The city of La Verne is holding a Memorial Day event from 11 a.m. to noon at Veterans Hall, 1550 Bonita Ave. The ceremony will include two special observances this year, a POW/MIA Recognition and Final Roll Call.
