Highways into San Bernardino Mountains reopen to residents without escorts – San Bernardino Sun

San Bernardino Mountains residents trapped in the lowlands since waves of winter storms rolled through more than a week ago are now able to return home — without an escort, Caltrans announced Monday afternoon.

Roads reopened without escorts to residents at 4 p.m. March 6. Chains are only required for Highway 138, Caltrans officials said, however they suggest chains be carried in all vehicles driving to the mountains, as a precaution against changing weather conditions.

Highway 18, from 48th in San Bernardino to Snow Valley

Highway 38, from Mentone to Big Bear

Highway 189, entire length

Highway 173, entire length

Highway 330, from Highland to Running Springs

Highway 138, from Highway 173 to Highway 18 and chains are required

The routes will be open in both directions.
