Here’s where to find award-winning ice cream in the Inland Empire – San Bernardino Sun



The 2022 Los Angeles International Dairy Competition — winners are showcased at the LA County Fair, and both are celebrating centennials this year — was held in February in Pomona and two local ice cream makers came away big winners

Montclair-based Scoops on Tap, which specializes in ice cream infused with beer and other spirits (but also makes alcohol-free flavors), won eight gold and two silver medals for its ice creams, plus two gold medals for its packaging.

The bulk of its awards were in the Full Fat Ice Cream, Other Flavors category. The following flavors earned gold medals: Toasted Marshmallow Crunch, Coffee Stout, Chocolate Stout, Banana, Dulce De Leche, Rich Butterscotch and Crème Brûlée.

Scoops on Tap also won a gold medal for its Luxurious Madagascar Vanilla ice cream in the Premium Vanilla Ice Cream, Category 1.

The silver medals were for Marvelous Strawberry ice cream in the Premium Strawberry Ice Cream, category 1, and Uber Creamy Chocolate ice cream in the Premium Chocolate ice cream, category 1.

Scoops on Tap’s ice creams are available at the Cal Poly Pomona Farm Store in Pomona and Corner Butcher in La Verne, as well as online via Goldbelly, and at various farmers markets and other pop-up locations.

Its first scoop shop is coming to Covina.

Happy Camper Creamery, which opened in Redlands in September, won three awards for its gelatos, along with a gold medal for packaging.

The shop won medals for its Strawberry Gelato, in the Strawberry Italian Gelato, Category 1; and for its Cafe Mexicano Gelato and S’more Gelato, both in the Italian Gelato, Other Flavors Category.

Happy Camper Creamery is at 721 Nevada St., Suite 208. Current hours are 3-8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon-8 p.m. Saturday.

National Burritos Day deal

National Burrito Day is Thursday, April 7, and Miguel’s Jr. is offering bean and cheese or bean, rice and cheese burritos for $1.99 that day.

The deal is valid at all locations for dine-in, takeout, online ordering, and drive-thru.

Hockey and beer

The Ontario Reign hockey team is hosting its final Beer Fest for the season during its Wild West Night, Saturday, April 2.

Hosted by Punch Bowl Social (which has a location at Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga), the fest will take place from 3 p.m.- 6 p.m. on the Toyota Arena Patio.

Along with beer, the event will feature music and games.
