Here’s how Colton celebrated 135 years as a city – San Bernardino Sun

Colton celebrated 135 years Saturday, July 9, with a birthday bash at its namesake high school for thousands of Hub City residents.

Guests enjoyed live music and food vendors before a fireworks show capped the evening.

The birthday festivities Saturday marked a return to celebrating each passing year with a party. Not since 2019 has Colton held such a gathering.

Local businesses and community members sponsored the three-hour event in its entirety.

Mayor Frank Navarro, a Colton resident the past 60 years, called the city “a generational community, where everybody knows everybody.”

“This 135th birthday is quite the accomplishment,” he said. “We’ve been around a long, long time. … It’s a small town, a family-type town. People are willing to step up when the need is there.

“We have some excellent businesses in Colton that are also an integral part of the community.”

That collaboration, Navarro added, between governance, businesses, residents and the city, is what will lead Colton into the future.

“We’ve got some great stuff planned,” the mayor said.
