Here are the San Bernardino City Unified School District’s 2022 valedictorians – San Bernardino Sun


The San Bernardino City Unified School District’s graduating class of 2022 has 23 valedictorians from seven comprehensive high schools, with two of them going to Stanford University, one to Princeton University, three to UC Berkeley, and two to Cal State San Bernardino.

In order to qualify for the honor of valedictorian or salutatorian in the San Bernardino City Unified School District, a student must be among the top 10 to 20 students with the highest grade value based on the specific courses that every student at a district high school campus has access to for seven semesters of high school, according to a news release.

The students must also complete all district graduation requirements and complete the eighth and final semester at the school from which they have been selected as valedictorian or salutatorian.

This year, there are seven valedictorians from Cajon High School, four each from Arroyo Valley, San Gorgonio and Middle College high schools, two from San Bernardino High School and one each from Pacific High School and Indian Springs High School.

Pacific High School’s valedictorian is Miranda Owen, who plans to study geology at Cal State San Bernardino.

Cajon High School’s valedictorians are Kalea Luna, who will attend UCLA; Luis Luna, who is enrolling in Columbia University and France’s Sciences Po to study political science; Eric Martinez, who will attend Stanford University to major in anthropology and comparative studies in race and ethnicity; Roxana Martinez, who will attend Princeton University and plans to become an immigration lawyer; Spencer Nelson, who will major in biology or business at UC Berkeley; Vivianna Santos, who will major in pre-biology and minor in business at UC Santa Barbara; and Mya Verrett, who plans to major in bioengineering at UC San Diego.

Arroyo Valley High School’s valedictorians are Wendy Aguilar, who plans to major in political science at the University of Redlands; Frankie Grant, who plans to attend UCLA and become a clinical psychologist; Michelle Le, who plans to study ecology and evolutionary biology at UC Irvine; and Alexa Tapia-Plazola, who will major in linguistics at Pomona College.

San Bernardino High School’s valedictorians are Kimberlyn Chavez Quiroz, who will study psychology at UC Berkeley; and Fernando Ramirez-Barragan, who will attend UCLA and plans to become a civil engineer.

San Gorgonio High School’s valedictorians are Melody Ambriz, who plans to major in psychology or social gender studies at UC Riverside; Lilianna Gracia, who plans to study music history and the music industry at USC or Berklee College of Music; Alexa Roman Serrano, who will attend Stanford University; and Emily Viramontes, who plans to become a neurosurgeon.

Middle College High School’s valedictorians are Desteny Becerra Figueroa, who plans to become a general physician or cardiothoracic surgeon; Daniela De La Torre, who plans to major in business administration at UC Berkeley; Julie Nguyen, who will attend UC San Diego and plans a career in computer science; and Sahian Solares, who will major in kinesiology at Cal State San Bernardino.

Indian Springs High School’s valedictorian is Sarai Conde, who plans to study neuroscience and neuropsychology at UC Riverside.
