Free groceries will be offered at Chino church Feb. 18 – San Bernardino Sun

Chino-based Food for Life Ministry will partner with Gateway Karis Church for a grocery distribution 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the church, 5885 Schaefer Ave., Chino.

“People are having to choose between buying groceries and paying their bills. That shouldn’t be,” Peter Song, the church’s senior pastor, said in a news release. “We’re glad to step up and help anyone who genuinely needs help in our community.”

Song said the church helped a family with six children this past Christmas and continues to work with an areawomen’s shelter.

“We’re so glad for the Food for Life Ministry,” Song said in the news release.

In addition to the Feb. 18 distribution at the church, Food for Life Ministry offers groceries 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from its warehouse at 4712 Cheyenne Way, Chino, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays from the warehouse when it is not involved in distributions elsewhere.

About 200 to 225 people receive food each week from Food for Life Ministry’s warehouse, according to Cindy Vande Steeg, who founded the nonprofit Food for Life more than a decade ago with her husband, Al.

Families may receive food from Food for Life once a week and must show photo identification, according to the news release.

Food for Life works with churches and other partners in Chino, Chino Hills, Ontario, Pomona and sometimes other areas. Volunteers and donations are always welcome.
