A 30-year-old former Perris High School math teacher who sexually assaulted a boy was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison on Friday, March 25, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office said.
Gerardo Curiel Regalado of Perris had pleaded guilty in October to five counts of sodomy of a child under 16 years old and one count each of supplying pornography to a minor and annoying a child. The plea was made to a Riverside County Superior Court judge without input from the DA’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Department said the inappropriate contact began in 2013 and took place mostly in 2015 in Perris and Lake Elsinore. In addition to teaching math, Regalado was working as a tutor and varsity volleyball coach for both the boys’ and girls’ teams at Perris High.
Regalado was suspended after the investigation began in 2021 and resigned shortly before he was arrested that February.
