Fontana officer is assaulted by suspect but still is able to arrest him, Police Department says | News

A Fontana Police Department officer was assaulted by a suspect but eventually was able to arrest him, according to a Facebook post by the P.D. on Sept. 21.

The incident occurred on Sept. 15, when officers responded to a petty theft at a convenience store in the area of Sierra and Merrill avenues, police said.

The officers located a suspect in the shopping center who resisted and became physically combative, assaulting one of the officers on scene, police said.

“Far from deterred, the officer pursued and ultimately apprehended the suspect, who now faces felony charges,” the Facebook post said.

Video footage of the incident was posted on the Facebook page.

“In the ever-unpredictable duties of law enforcement, our Fontana police officers are committed to safeguarding our community around the clock. Our dedication to public safety never stops. We refuse to let violent individuals disrupt the peace of our streets,” the Facebook post said.
