Fontana Sheriff’s Station deputies investigated an assault of an elderly victim which occurred during an attempted theft in Bloomington, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The assault took place on Sept. 22 at about 12:15 p.m. in the 18000 block of Jurupa Avenue.
The deputies arrived and learned the victim, who is over the age of 65, interrupted a potential theft in progress. While doing so, he was assaulted by a male and a female who were armed with blunt objects. The victim suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
During the investigation, deputies learned of a residential burglary which occurred in the same area. With the assistance of a Sheriff’s Department canine from the Rancho Cucamonga Station and Sheriff’s Aviation, deputies checked the area but were not able to locate the suspects.
The incidents are under investigation, and it is not yet known if they are related.
Out of an abundance of caution, and to ensure the safety of children and staff on campus, staff and students from nearby schools sheltered in place for a period of time while deputies searched the area, the Sheriff’s Department said.
