Firefighters close to snuffing out Jurupa Valley brush fire – San Bernardino Sun

With little activity from the flames remaining in the 110-acre Union fire in Jurupa Valley, firefighters on Monday, June 27, were mopping up the hot spots in some of the areas difficult to reach in the Santa Ana River.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department declared the fire 85% contained, the percentage of the fire’s border the blaze is not expected to swell beyond.

Firefighters are focusing on areas where vegetation is thick, and it is a time-consuming process to cool down those areas and cut the brush down to bare soil, said Tawny Cabral, a Cal Fire spokeswoman.

The fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday in the area of Indian Camp Road and Candle Light Drive, near the Jurupa Hills Country Club. The fire prompted evacuations, which were lifted Sunday morning.

The cause of the fire had not been announced.
