A fire at a facility in Fontana burning bales of cardboard sent plumes of smoke into the sky Monday evening, June 6, authorities said.
The fire was reported at 7:31 p.m. at Burrtec Waste Industries, at 13373 Napa St., the San Bernardino County Fire Department said. The fire burned 200 to 300 bales of cardboard, the Fire Department said.
The fire was being held to its area of origin as of 9 p.m. and units were expected to remain at the scene into the night, according to the Fire Department’s final update on the incident.

The Fire Department’s hazmat team was requested as well, authorities said.
The Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department assisted with the fire, officials said.
It wasn’t immediately clear how the fire was caused.
