Fairview fire near Hemet prompts evacuations – San Bernardino Sun



An evacuation order was issued Monday evening, Sept. 5, for the rapidly growing Fairview fire south of Hemet.

The order affects an area south of Thornton Avenue, north of Polly Butte Road, west of Fairview Avenue and east of State Street, Cal Fire tweeted.

The fire, which was first reported at 3:37 p.m. at Fairview Avenue and Bautista Road, grew from 20 to 500 acres and is “burning at a rapid rate of spread,” Cal Fire reported Monday, Sept. 5.

Footage shot by ABC7 appears to show homes burning.

Smoke from the fire was visible throughout southwest Riverside County.

The fire broke out amid sweltering temperatures of 100-plus degrees that strained California’s power grid.
