Etiwanda baseball team romps past two opponents in playoffs | Sports


Continuing with the success they enjoyed during the regular season, the Etiwanda High School baseball players romped to two victories in the opening rounds of the CIF Division 2 playoffs.

The Eagles, who won the Baseline League championship with a 12-3 record (22-8 overall), will face Pacifica in the third round on Friday, May 13.

Back on May 5, Etiwanda routed Temecula Valley, 10-2, in a first-round clash as Armando Briseno blasted a home run and a single and drove in four runs.

Parker Sobiesiak drilled two singles, scored two runs, and had one RBI, while Austen Roellig singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in two runs.

Tyler Shigenaka and Tyler McEvoy each walloped a double and Brady Ebel, Michael Harrison, and Freddie Capacete all singled.

Dylan Goff pitched six strong innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out 10 batters. Yahir Ramirez pitched the final inning and did not give up any hits.

—– THEN on May 10, the Eagles smashed Warren, 10-1, behind the strong pitching and hitting of Ebel.

While on the mound, Ebel scattered seven hits and struck out five batters in a complete-game performance. At the plate, he went 3-for-5 with a triple, two singles, one run, and one RBI.

McEvoy boomed a triple and a double, scored a run, and drove in two runs.

Shigenaka went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Briseno had two singles, two runs, and one RBI. Capacete singled twice and drove in two runs. Roellig, Kaedon Mas, and Sobiesiak all singled.
